DevStudios' TUXX continues to power Vocelli Pizza's growth

"So far, the record for the most orders that Vocelli Pizza's call centre has taken in one hour is 1,459," says Bob Vergidis, the president and CEO of DevStudios, an Edmonton, Alberta, software developer. "The most they've handled in one day is 7,400, and the weekly record is 30,228. Last year, they handled well over a million calls. This year, they've already broken that record, and I'm happy to announce that Vocelli Pizza recently agreed to continue using DevStudios TUXX call centre and point-of-sale-based Business Operating System."

DevStudios TUXX is a new DevStudios International Inc. subsidiary, created last August, after DevStudios absorbed most of an Edmonton firm's customers and employees and its UNIX-based call centre and point-of-sale ("POS") business intelligence software, which was serving about 20 pizza chains with around 500 stores. Although the DevStudios TUXX technology was built for the pizza industry, it can serve any type of multi-store quick-service restaurant business.

Creating DevStudios TUXX not only added call centre technology to DevStudios' product line, its mature, well-proven UNIX-based POS system is a complement to the Windows-based DevStudios Leapfrog POS Business Operating System. As a result, DevStudios became one of the few POS companies that can offer both Windows- and UNIX-based products and the exciting combinations that are now possible.

DevStudios is currently getting to know the DevStudios TUXX customers it acquired in August by negotiating agreements to continue to provide software and support and service and also upgrade their systems. Pittsburgh-based Vocelli Pizza, one of the latest signings, is chain of well over 100 franchises and corporate-owned stores, in Pennsylvania and seven other states.

Most of Vocelli Pizza stores have the same phone number and are served by the new call centre, which is housed in the building that the company recently bought for that purpose, on South Bee Street, in Pittsburgh. It has 120 operator's stations and a separate training area. There is also room for more stations, and considering Vocelli Pizza's aggressive marketing and growth strategy, they will be needed sooner than later. In August, the 100th franchise was welcomed to the chain. More recently, four new stores opened in November and another five are expected to open this month.

"We've just upgraded Vocelli's to DevStudios TUXX version 7.5," says Doug Hamm, DevStudios TUXX's general manager. "We're now building their DevStudios Leapfrog WebLink portal, and customers will have the option of ordering their pizzas on line in February."

DevStudios Leapfrog Version 3.0 Beta 2 Released

DevStudios International Inc. (TSX V: DVE) ("DevStudios"), is pleased to announce the launch of beta 2 of DevStudios Leapfrog® Version 3.0, the next generation of its Business Operating System software.

"We are pleased to release the second beta of DevStudios Leapfrog®" said Bob Vergidis, President and CEO of DevStudios. "It represents a new era of software for small and medium sized businesses, with a wide range of advanced features, and the functionality needed to be a very strong competitor in a much larger market space", added Vergidis.

DevStudios Leapfrog® Version 3.0 not only comes with a list of enhancements, it also moves the capabilities of the application to the next level by adding support for larger, multi-location, multi-owner, and franchise organizations. Beta 2 has been installed at select locations, and it is undergoing configuration and testing, it is expected to be in full release in the next six months.

Version 3.0 remains completely Internet-enabled, and is built on Microsoft's .NET 2.0 and SQL 2005 platforms. It can be deployed in many configurations to match the needs and technical setup of the client, either in-premise or hosted, local or remote. It has a near-zero footprint on the user's desktop, and it can be accessed securely from anywhere in the world through Internet access.

In its present configuration Version 3.0 will be targeted to Point-of-Sale organizations, including food and beverage operations, Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), retail outlets, and other business that sells products or services. Its competitive advantage is real time integration between Customer Relationship Management, accounting and back office operation, front office operation, inventory, and point-of-sale functions. DevStudios Leapfrog® Version 3.0 is targeted to businesses with one single location or in multi-location environments.

DevStudios TUXX introduces the Penguin to Iceland

Last August, DevStudios, the rapidly growing Edmonton, Alberta, software developer, created a new subsidiary by absorbing the software and the key programmers, the design and development teams, the technical support department and nearly all the customers of a rival Edmonton firm, which had been providing a Unix-based one-number call centre and point-of-sale business intelligence system to about 20 pizza chains with some 500 stores. Over the last 20 years, this technology has processed more than 100 million individual pizza orders (or, to be exact, 103,288,561, as this sentence was being written).

The new subsidiary is called DevStudios TUXX. It is named after Tux, the cartoon penguin mascot of UNIX's fiercely loyal users.

DevStudios is now getting to know its new customers by negotiating agreements to continue to provide software and support and service to the chains and also upgrade their systems with its own TUXX version 8.0 Leapfrog business system. Among the latest to sign is Domino's Iceland, which has 13 stores and a 60-seat call centre in Reykjavik, a city of 180,000 people. The stores include two that are regularly ranked among the five busiest Domino's outlets in the world. As well as upgrading to TUXX 8.0, which will, along with many other features, give them integrated credit card authorization at the call centre and stores, Domino's Iceland will also be acquiring the Leapfrog WebLink module and start offering online ordering.

"The addition of a call-centre system to our product line has resulted in a significant increase in our client base with potential for further growth," says Bob Vergidis, DevStudios' President and CEO. "Although the system was developed for the pizza business, it can be easily adapted for use by any quick-service restaurant chain. So, as we'll soon be showing the industry, it is now possible for a deli chain, say, which never dreamed of being able to offer home delivery, to do just that and dramatically grow its business at a remarkably low cost. Not many POS firms can offer both Windows-and Unix-based systems, to say nothing of the exciting combinations that are now possible."

Domino's Iceland is owned by Pizza Pizza EHF, which also owns Domino's Denmark, another TUXX client. "They completely dominate the Reykjavik market," says Doug Hamm, TUXX's general manager, who has worked with this technology since its inception, more than 20 years ago. "There seems to be a little Domino's delivery car on every corner, and they do a neat thing for customers who phone in and say they want to pick up their pizza at a store. It takes six minutes to bake a pizza, and when it enters the oven, a message is automatically sent to the customer's cell phone, saying it'll be on the counter in seven minutes."

Some four years ago, retained as a consultant, DevStudios wrote the Internet ordering and back-of-house SQL data warehouse software for a predecessor of TUXX 8.0. "In the short time since then," Doug Hamm says, "Dev's Leapfrog system has evolved light years ahead of where we were then." Moreover, it is now possible for Unix- and Windows-based systems to communicate. "So, to enable Leapfrog's Windows-based WebLink to talk to Domino's Iceland's TUXX system, we built an XML interface between the call centre, store-side point of sale and the website."
